This 3D animation was developed with Houston Colon Specialists for patient education. It provides a medical animated sequence about the traditional "Open Procedure" that the surgeons at HCS avoid performing. Instead, they perform a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure or robotic procedure.

A cancer of the colon or rectum is located at the digestive tract's lower end. Early cases can begin as noncancerous polyps. These often have no symptoms but can be detected by screening. For this reason, doctors recommend screenings for those at high risk or over the age of 50.

Colorectal cancer symptoms depend on the size and location of the cancer. Some commonly experienced symptoms include changes in bowel habits, changes in stool consistency, blood in the stool, and abdominal discomfort.

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 200,000 new cases of colorectal cancer this year. Combined, colon and rectal cancer will cause about 75,000 deaths.

This video, created by Nucleus Medical Media, shows a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure used to combat coronary artery disease. Beginning with a midline sternal incision, the heart is connected to a perfusion machine which will take over the duties of the heart while the surgery takes place. Two different grafts are used to bypass the blocked coronary arteries: the internal thoracic artery from inside the chest wall, and the saphenous vein from the leg. After the procedure, the heart is shocked to restart its beating. A drainage tube is left at the incision site to drain away excess fluid. The animation continues to show two other types of approaches to a coronary artery bypass graft, off-pump bypass surgery and minimally invasive bypass surgery.

This is similar to the procedure performed on former president Bill Clinton and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

http://www.nucleushealth.com/ - This 3D medical animation shows the cause and laparoscopic treatment of a ventral incisional hernia. If you have had abdominal surgery in the past, a ventral incisional hernia may appear at the site of your surgical scar. Your intestine may push through a weakened spot in the tissue between your abdominal muscles creating a bulge beneath your skin. If your hernia is not repaired, complications may occur.

Excerpt from my Normal Skin Histology video: https://kikoxp.com/posts/3660.

A complete organized library of all my videos, digital slides, pics, & sample pathology reports is available here: https://kikoxp.com/posts/5084 (dermpath) & https://kikoxp.com/posts/5083 (bone/soft tissue sarcoma pathology).

Please check out my Soft Tissue Pathology & Dermatopathology survival guide textbooks: http://bit.ly/2Te2haB

Also, in the past I used "keratinocyte" and "squamous cell" interchangeably (this is because in dermatopathology, we see and talk about squamous cell carcinomas all the time, and those tumors are composed of keratinocytes). But technically, in normal skin histology, "squamous cell" refers only to the flattened keratinocytes in the superficial epidermis. Thankfully, a histology PhD colleague pointed this out to me and corrected my lazy nomenclature!

This video is geared towards medical students, pathology or dermatology residents, or practicing pathologists or dermatologists. Of course, this video is for educational purposes only and is not formal medical advice or consultation.

Mohs surgery is a procedure used to remove skin cancers (most commonly basal and squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma) in a way that preserves a maximum amount of healthy tissue. It is useful for skin cancers when:

(1) the location of the cancer is near sensitive areas, like the fingers or face;
(2) earlier treatments have not worked;
(3) a skin cancer is large; and
(4) regular surgery is less likely to remove the cancer.

This procedure video illustrates the procedure on 2 patients with basal cell carcinoma. Click https://ja.ma/3b4scuY to learn more.

This video demonstrate Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Full Length Skin to Skin Video with Infrared Cholangiography performed by Dr R K Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital. Infrared Cholegiography is performed by using Indocyanine Green during laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery for gallbladder removal. Bile duct injury remains the most feared complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) is the current gold standard for biliary imaging and may reduce injury, but is not widely used because of the difficulties of doing it. Near-Infrared Fluorescence Cholangiography (NIRF-C) is a novel non-invasive method for real-time, radiation-free, intra-operative biliary mapping during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We have experienced that NIRF-C is a safe and effective method for identifying biliary anatomy during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Indocyanine green is a cyanine dye is very popular and used for many years in medical diagnostics. It is used for determining cardiac output, hepatic function, liver, and gastric blood flow, and for ophthalmic angiography. Now the use of this dye in lap chole has improved the safety of this surgery by NEAR INFRARED FLUORESCENT CHOLANGIOGRAPHY.
