In this lecture Professor Kristin Beach, MSN, BSN, RN will be discussing Hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is a procedure where a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer, are used to clean your blood. In order to receive dialysis, a minor surgery is performed to the arm to create an arteriovenous shunt.

This cancer development medical video is devoted to elaborating the basics of cancer growth. We used advanced medical animation techniques to display such a complicated process.

What is happening in cancer development medical video

The fundamental abnormality described in the cancer development medical video is the nonstop unregulated multiplication of cancer cells. Being uncontrollable by body’s signals that regulate normal cell behavior; cancerous cells divide and grow populating neighboring normal tissues or even spread throughout the body. The overall lack of growth control acquired by cancer cells is due to the accumulated abnormalities in numerous cell regulatory mechanisms and is considered in some aspects of cell behavior that differs them from their healthy counterparts. The interaction of these cells is shown in our previous medical animation video.

A successful cardiovascular exam includes visual examination, palpation of the apical impulse, auscultation of Erb's point, auscultation of the carotids, and auscultation over the four different heart valve locations (aortic, pulmonic, tricuspid, and mitral). Additionally, the radial pulse is palpated while auscultating to distinguish whether a murmur is diastolic or systolic.

It depends upon which ligament is injured. If it is medial collateral ligament you feel pain when you walk ,sit and stand and you will be liming as well. If it is anterior cruciate ligament you feel pain when you walk on uneven ground.

One of the most common knee injuries in contact and collision sports is a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. This is a ligament on the medial (side closest to the midline) side of your knee that provides stability against side-to-side stress to the knee. You might injure it by cutting maneuvers in sports like soccer or hockey. You can also suffer an MCL injury if another player hits you on the outside of your knee.

Unlike tears of the ACL, MCL injuries most often heal without surgery. You might need to wear a hinged knee brace for 2-6 weeks. The length of time you miss from sports or exercise varies depending on the location and severity of the injury.

In this video, I share my thoughts on the nature of an MCL injury, the diagnosis, the treatment options and return to sports.

Neck Examination - Cervical Spine Assessment - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill

Compose a new pain within athletes is cervical spine discomfort, thankfully in the vast majority of cases when the neck is examined the cause of the neck pain is found to be muscular.

However, pain can also refer from the neck to the arm, in which case it is important to be able to assess for cervical radiculopathy prior to gaining more information which may indicate an MRI is needed

We assess for radiculopathy by doing Spurling's test, an often overlooked part of the neck examination, but it should be included for completeness and reassurance of the patient - not forgetting the athlete or not, neck pain can be a considerable source of distress, so it's vital to be able to get information from the neck examination which allows you to safely reassure a patient when appropriate, or comment that neck exam found evidence that needs further investigation

Ankle and Foot Clinical Examination - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill

When it comes to joints of the body, the ankle is one of the joints most commonly injured. This is vitally important to be able to effectively examine a patient who is complaining of pain in the ankle and foot.

In this video we will perform a demonstration of the ankle and foot examination.

Examination of the foot, and the ankle joint, follows the standard orthopaedic approach of look, feel, move.

Please note that there is no ABSOLUTE way to perform a clinical examination. Different institutions and even clinicians will have differing degrees of variations - the aim is the effectively identify medically relevant signs.

However during OSCE assessments. Different medical schools, nursing colleges, and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.
