Today, the most common approach for open-heart surgery is a sternotomy, which requires a 12-14-inch incision through the breastbone. Learn more in this medical animation from Sarasota Memorial's Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Team and medical director Jonathan Hoffberger, DO. For information or referrals, visit smhheart.com.
